See her every morning, pruning flowers out front,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Heads out back to repeat the task, takes a big gulp from her flask,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Recently-retired, living it out on her lonesome,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Save for occasional visits from grown little ones, their tiny tots call her \u2018Nan\u2019, melting hearts like only grandkids can,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Had to do it the hard way, got here mostly on her own,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Paid the bills, raised the kids, worked hard and maintained the home,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Love for family powered her along after the greatest loss of all, fate hadn\u2019t been so kind, he\u2019s out of sight but never out of mind,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They\u2019d met long ago, love was instantaneous,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Dated, married, had a few kiddos, before he fell to a wretched virus,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And so she stepped up, put the young ones through college,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Was with \u2018em through every step, lord knows how much willpower she possessed,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Worked her fingers to the bone until retirement age, yeah she did all that,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
It was perilous and messy but she came through all that,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
All the while they asked if she\u2019d ever find another, always she deployed the usual answer,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u201cNot a chance, I\u2019ve had my happy ending, though he\u2019s gone our union\u2019s everlasting,\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
She\u2019d surely found the one, he could never be replaced,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Now she walks on until the day when they\u2019re reconnected beyond time and space.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Another one bites the dust, never went beyond the second date,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Let alone first base, try as he might he only sees her face,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Been a few years since fate had the final say, she was mowed down on that day by a fool behind the wheel totally off his face,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They should\u2019ve exchanged vows, it\u2019ll never happen now,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019s tried to find another since, it wasn\u2019t supposed to be like this,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He\u2019d found his happily ever after, no one can compare to her,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Plenty of fish,\u2019 they say, \u2018you\u2019ll surely find another,\u2019<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But they don\u2019t know he\u2019d found the one, she can never be replaced,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Becomes apparent with every failed date, a solo life might be his fate.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
They say there\u2019s someone for everyone, if you\u2019re lucky you\u2019ll meet \u2018em before 21,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Exchange vows then grow old together, create a lifetime of memories and adventures,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But the grim reaper remains unbeaten, never know when it comes knocking,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Some move on and find another, but others ain\u2019t checking for a replacement,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Love of one\u2019s life, the one true love, you\u2019ve heard the clich\u00e9s, it\u2019s not every day they come around,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Time can\u2019t diminish their significance, no one can replicate their presence,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
And so they carry on faithfully until they reunite somewhere on the other side,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Better to have loved than lost, for many it\u2019s no fucking lie. <\/p>\n\n\n\n
