It\u2019s a nice summer afternoon, the holiday season imminent,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yours truly ain\u2019t even started buying those Christmas\npresents yet,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The mind\u2019s speeding train suddenly derailed by the presence\nof a stranger,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wearing a loaded backpack, clutching the image of one of the\ncity\u2019s landmarks,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Slightly annoyed at being snapped out of my trance, but this\nfella needed assistance, might as well give this dude a chance,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Language barrier cancelled a verbal exchange, showed me the\npicture in his hand in order to communicate,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clear as day that he was looking to get to this place,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Poor guy had lost his bearings, turned to the kindness of strangers\nto help him somehow,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
So lost was I in my thoughts I hadn\u2019t quite returned to the\nhere and now,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Lived in this city for most of my life, certainly familiar\nwith its icons and sights,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Yet I\u2019m lost at sea with this traveler, home had suddenly become unfamiliar,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Pointed to some random direction, where I believed he should\ngo,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Laid out that path for him, it wasn\u2019t quite the yellow brick\nroad,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Nevertheless he was satisfied, thanked me in his native\ntongue,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Then off he went, happily, into the afternoon sun,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
\u2018Hope he makes it there,\u2019 thought I, resuming my walk,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
