Pandemic ain\u2019t playin\u2019, re-spawning again and again just like\na revenant,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Might seem like I\u2019ve been duckin\u2019 and doggin\u2019 even when case\nnumbers were stallin\u2019,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hate to make excuses but such is life for one saddled with a\nfuckin\u2019 health condition,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Shit was hard medicine but common sense overruled rebellion,\nwish I\u2019d been wired different but playing Russian Roulette can have dire\nconsequences,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
I do miss chopping it up with y\u2019all, food trips, karaoke\nsessions and house parties too for good measure, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
A year and a bit feelin\u2019 like it\u2019s been draggin\u2019 forever,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Reminiscin\u2019 in lockdown over hangin\u2019, chillin\u2019, swapping\nstories and jokes,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Stickin\u2019 hands, sparrin\u2019 and trainin\u2019, that one\u2019s for those\nin the know,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Hope to be back in the club with y\u2019all, when that\u2019ll be\nstill uncertain,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Provided fate don\u2019t swoop in and send those plans crashing\nand burning,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Plans to meet up with a few others continually postponed,\neven pre-2020 seemed permanently on hold,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Clashes of schedules are a pain, plans to rendezvous\ncontinuously flushed down the drain,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Life had other ideas, covid knocked the world off course, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Two years later and barely a difference, the reign of terror\npersists without remorse,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Every night reflecting over what if the ship had sailed a\ndifferent direction,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Had no viruses run rampant, in the process exposin\u2019 the very\nworst in others,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Things might have turned out different, though some\ndevelopments, good and bad, couldn\u2019t be avoided,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
But without a pandemic maybe some of the latter wouldn\u2019t\nhave been exacerbated,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Would\u2019ve spared us the spectacle of grown-folks fighting\nover toilet paper, no violence and accusations towards folks of certain races,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A hug, kiss or handshake would still be a habit rather than\nan act of defiance,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Coulda, woulda, shoulda, if it\u2019s beyond control then no\npoint despairin\u2019,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Can\u2019t cry over spilled milk, real ones dust off and get on\nwith their business,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Currently awaiting that first jab, the local clinic waiting\nfor supplies,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Patiently waiting for this wave to subside before catching\nup with you guys,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
A major development on the personal front, ya boy had\nanother examination, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
Cleared to cease one of his medications, emerged from a\nthree-year war victorious,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Wish I could\u2019ve met with y\u2019all and celebrated, y\u2019all helped\na brother out in the struggle,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
For now gotta stay rain-checkin\u2019 on a day-by-day and\ncase-by-case basis,<\/p>\n\n\n\n
We\u2019ll catch up like old times in the new normal once this\nwhole mess blows over, <\/p>\n\n\n\n
The way out remains elusive, in the meantime gotta keep that\nhead above water.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
